What is NFCFind?
NFCFind is a smart item tracking platform that uses NFC (Near Field Communication) tags to help you keep track of your belongings. Attach an NFC tag to any item, and if it is lost, anyone who finds it can scan the tag with their phone to contact you securely.
How does NFCFind work?
- Register an NFC tag on your NFCFind account.
- Link the tag to an item (laptop, keys, luggage, etc.).
- Physically attach or stick the NFC tag to your item.
- If the item is lost, a finder scans the tag with any NFC-enabled phone.
- The finder sees your item details and can message you through our secure contact system.
- You receive a notification with the finder's message and the scan location.
Do I need the NFCFind app to scan a tag?
No. Anyone with an NFC-enabled smartphone can scan an NFCFind tag. The tag opens a web page in their browser where they can view item details and contact the owner. No app installation is required for finders.
What devices support NFC scanning?
Most modern smartphones support NFC, including:
- iPhone 7 and later (iOS 11+)
- Most Android phones manufactured after 2015
- The finder does not need the NFCFind app installed.
NFC Tags
Where can I get NFCFind NFC tags?
You can purchase NFCFind NFC tags through the "Buy Tags" section in the app or on our website at nfcfind.com.
What types of NFC tags are compatible?
NFCFind works with NTAG213, NTAG215, NTAG216, and most standard NFC Forum Type 2 tags. Tags purchased through our platform are pre-configured for optimal compatibility.
Can I use third-party NFC tags?
Yes. You can use any NFC tag that supports NDEF (NFC Data Exchange Format). Simply scan the tag with the NFCFind app to register and link it to your account.
How do I attach a tag to my item?
Tags come in various forms including stickers, key fobs, and cards. You can:
- Stick adhesive tags directly onto items.
- Attach key fob tags to keychains or zippers.
- Place card tags inside wallets, passport holders, or laptop sleeves.
Can I set a password on my NFC tag?
Yes. You can set a password on your NFC tag through the app for additional security. This prevents unauthorized users from overwriting the data on your tag.
Can I reuse a tag for a different item?
Yes. You can unlink a tag from one item and link it to another at any time through the app.
Privacy and Security
Is my personal information safe?
Yes. Your privacy is our priority:
- Finders see only the information you choose to share.
- Phone numbers and emails can be masked or hidden entirely.
- Finders contact you through our secure messaging system without seeing your actual contact details.
- All data is encrypted in transit and at rest.
What information does a finder see when they scan my tag?
Based on your privacy settings, a finder may see:
- Item name, description, and photos.
- Your name (optional).
- A masked phone number or email (optional).
- A secure contact form to send you a message.
Can I control what information is visible?
Yes. In your profile settings, you can toggle:
- Show/hide your name.
- Show/hide your phone number.
- Show/hide your email address.
- Enable/disable the messaging feature.
Is my location tracked?
Location data is collected only during NFC tag scans (with device permission) to help you identify where your item was last scanned. You can disable location permissions on your device at any time.
Items and Tracking
How many items can I track?
The number of items depends on your subscription plan:
- Free Plan: Up to 3 items and 3 tags.
- Paid Plans: Higher limits based on your selected plan.
Check the Billing section in the app for current plan details and limits.
Can I add photos to my items?
Yes. You can upload multiple photos for each item to help identify them. Photos are stored securely on our servers.
What happens when someone scans my lost item?
When a finder scans your item's NFC tag:
- They are taken to a web page showing your item details.
- They can send you a message through the secure contact form.
- You receive a push notification with the message and scan location.
- You can respond to the finder through the app's messaging feature.
Can I mark an item as lost?
Yes. You can update an item's status to "Lost" in the app. This prominently displays a "Lost Item" banner when someone scans the tag, encouraging them to contact you.
Lending and Transfers
How does the lending feature work?
- Go to an item's details and tap "Lend Item."
- Enter the borrower's email and optional due date.
- The borrower receives a notification to accept the lending request.
- Once accepted, the item shows as "Lent" with borrower details.
- Either party can initiate a return when the borrowing period ends.
Can I transfer ownership of an item?
Yes. You can transfer items to other NFCFind users:
- Go to the item's details and tap "Transfer Ownership."
- Enter the recipient's email.
- The recipient receives a notification to accept the transfer.
- Once accepted, the item and its linked tag are moved to the recipient's account.
What is a handover code?
A handover code is a unique verification code generated for lending transactions. It helps confirm physical handover of the item between lender and borrower.
Organizations
What are organizations?
Organizations allow teams, businesses, or groups to manage items and tags collectively. Members can share items, track assets, and collaborate on item management.
How do I create an organization?
Go to Settings, then Organizations, and tap "Create Organization." Enter your organization name and optional description.
What roles are available in organizations?
- Owner: Full control including organization deletion.
- Admin: Can manage members, items, and tags.
- Member: Can view and interact with shared items.
Subscriptions and Billing
Is NFCFind free to use?
Yes. NFCFind offers a free plan that includes basic features with limited items and tags. Paid plans are available for users who need higher limits and additional features.
How do I upgrade my plan?
Go to Settings, then Billing, and select a plan. Payments are securely processed through PayPal.
Can I cancel my subscription?
Yes. You can cancel at any time through the Billing section. Your paid features remain active until the end of your current billing period.
Do I get a refund if I cancel?
Your subscription remains active until the end of the billing cycle. Refunds are handled on a case-by-case basis. Contact support@nfcfind.com for refund requests.
Notifications
What notifications will I receive?
NFCFind sends notifications for:
- Lending: New requests, returns, reminders for overdue items.
- Transfers: Incoming transfer requests and confirmations.
- Lost and Found: Messages from finders and scan alerts.
- Scans: Activity when your tags are scanned.
- System: Account updates and announcements.
Can I customize my notifications?
Yes. Go to Settings, then Notification Preferences, to enable or disable notifications by category for both push notifications and email.
Account and Support
How do I delete my account?
Contact us at support@nfcfind.com to request account deletion. Your data will be removed or anonymized within 30 days.

I forgot my password. How do I reset it?
On the login screen, tap "Forgot Password" and enter your email address. You will receive a password reset link via email.
